HOW TO CLEAN YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES

Friday, August 12, 2016

One thing that I think it is very important to learn is how to correctly clean your makeup brushes without damaging the bristles and cleaning them fully. When you use your brushes bits of makeup, oil, dirt, and even bacteria can get trapped in the bristles. So while it might seem basic, skipping this step can lead to clogged pores and pesky breakouts. Not to mention the fact that quality make up brushes can be expensive. So learning how to properly clean them is one of the best ways to protect your investment.

The Rules

Don't turn the makeup brush upside down when the bristles are wet.

Stand them upright when they dry.

Don't dip the brush past the silver/coloured bit at the bottom, where the handle meets the head.
Otherwise the glue holding the bristles will weaken and the bristles will gradually fall out.

What you will need:

2 shallow bowls

Baby shampoo (better than soaps as there are not as many chemicals, leaves them soft, and very affordable)- I will link mine below

A towel

A rough plate or glove or your hand

1.Fill up both of your bowls with lukewarm water, not hot otherwise your bristles will become rough and damaged. Dip your brush in  one of the bowls, but only get the bristles wet remember!

2. Put a small amount of baby shampoo on your hand, or plate and swirl the wet brush around, you will be able to see the makeup coming out, as the bubbles will turn an different colour.

3. Rinse the brush off in the same bowl well and wipe on the towel  then repeat step 2 if necessary. Then dip in the other bowl to thoroughly clean them.

4. Finally, you want to wipe and squeeze the brush until as dry as your going to get it on the towel, and stand it up right onto your towel and I recommend leaving them over night to fully dry. I recommend cleaning your brushes like this after you have done your make up, and then they will be dry for the next day.

This method I think is the best way to clean your makeup brushes because it thoroughly cleans them and it keeps them looking brand new. It's also worth mentioning that there are specially formulated brush shampoos and gloves on the market. A gentle clarifying or baby shampoo will do the trick just fine.

DONE! Beautiful, clean makeup brushes that look brand new!
